TCS to staff: Get back to ‘base branch’ by November 15

Must Read

India’s largest IT services provider by revenue, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), has asked staff to return to their “deputed location (base branch)” by November 15, in an indication that it is preparing employees in the country to start working from offices. The return to office will, however, be a calibrated move that will take into consideration employee health and safety, the company said in a statement to ET.

The company has 528,748 workers on its rolls, both in India as well as overseas. TCS’ decision to ask its workforce to return to their base branches was through an official communication sent earlier this week by Milind Lakkad, its executive vice president and global head of human resources. At present, about 5% of its associates work from offices, TCS said.

“Towards the end of CY’21, we will encourage our associates to return to offices, at least initially, before we switch to the 25/25 model. This will be done in a phased and flexible manner and will depend on respective team leaders and the requirements of each team/ project,” it said in the statement. “We are committed to the 25/ 25 model, but before transitioning to the model we need to start by getting people back to office and gradually evolve to 25/25.”

Last year, TCS said it would move towards a hybrid workplace model — termed 25/25 — according to which it expects to have only 25% of its employees working from the company’s premises by 2025. The rest of the employees are expected to work remotely.
